The event detection software on the cameras is designed to look for fireballs, but occasionally gets fooled by other transient linear features.

Some of these can be quite spectacular, such as here in the wheat belt, where the reliably running lucky-number camera system DFNKIT13 has captured some incredible lightning during recent storms. Once we found this stunning photo while reviewing detections, we contacted the family hosting the camera system on their farm. They confirmed there was a very noisy thunder detonation that woke them up, including their little son, who got scared and came for a cuddle.
